28 Mar 2018 --- Campbell Soup Company recently announced the completion of the acquisition of Snyder’s-Lance, Inc. for US$50 per share in an all-cash transaction. The acquisition, which represents an enterprise value of approximately $6.1 billion, is a strategic acquisition for Campbell, creating a US$10 billion company with almost half of annual net sales in the fast-growing snacking category, called Campbell’s Snacks.
27 Mar 2018 --- Taghleef Industries showcased their approach to modern, sustainable, flexible packaging and positioning themselves firmly as within a circular economy at Anuga FoodTec 2018. The show had a reported record-breaking number of visitors (50,000) when held in Cologne, Germany last week: an 11 percent increase from 2017. The show also attracted visitors from over 152 countries and comprised of 1,700 exhibitors.
27 Mar 2018 --- Kraft Heinz Ingredients (KHI) is planning to roll out new nut snacks based on prototypes introduced at the recent Snaxpo in Atlanta, US. Kraft's Senior Associate Brand Manager James Clinton Francis said that nuts offer a “new path forward for snacking” driven by the growing health and wellness trend.
19 Mar 2018 --- Most Westerners shudder at the prospect of eating insects, but attitudes towards them vary dramatically across the globe. In fact, around two billion people already eat bugs as part of their diet. As the global population continues to rise, more and more people are looking for insect protein as a sustainable food source. Not only do many insects, including crickets, contain all nine essential amino acids, this type of protein is also sustainable, especially in comparison to traditional meat sources. It takes one gallon of water to produce one pound of insect protein. Almost two thousand gallons of water, by contrast, are poured into every pound of beef that lands on a plate. US-based start-up Chirps Chips is on a mission to educate Western society on the benefits of insect protein in a corn snack.

14 Feb 2018 --- Valio has announced its nutrition agreement for improving the health and well-being of consumers. The ambitious targets for reducing salt and sugar content in Valio’s products by 2020 are part of the United Nations sustainability program and continued efforts to improve public health.
13 Feb 2018 --- Orkla Food Ingredients and Renaissance BioScience Corp. have agreed to expand their license agreement for Orkla to exclusively manufacture and sell Renaissance’s acrylamide-reducing yeast, Acrylow, to food manufacturers in additional new markets in Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. The agreement builds on the initial exclusive agreement implemented in Q3/2017 that covered the Nordic and Baltic regional markets in Europe.
19 Dec 2017 --- The Campbell Soup Company has now made it official by announcing the US$4.87bn acquisition of Snyder's-Lance, in a deal said to be the soup company's largest ever in its 148-year history. Traditional companies like Campbell have been struggling against a backdrop of shifting food preferences in markets all over the world, however, Campbell’s is hoping the addition of Snyder’s snacks brands will shore up its position in-store.

09 Oct 2017 --- Not only did new product activity in the snacks market continue to forge ahead in 2016 and the first part of 2017, but the growth rate actually increased slightly. Innova Market Insights recorded a rise of 10 percent in overall global launch numbers in the 12 months to the end of May 2017, upon a still impressive near-9 percent in the previous 12-month period. The category, as defined by Innova Market Insights, includes not only traditional savory or salty snacks and snack nuts & seeds, but also products such as meat snacks, popcorn and fruit-based snacks, as well as finger foods and hors-d'oeuvres.

27 Apr 2017 --- The Hershey Company yesterday announced its first quarter sales and earnings, with consolidated net sales reaching US$1,879.7 million compared with US$1,828.8 million for the first quarter of 2016 and reported net income reaching US$125 million, compared with US$229.8 million for the comparable period last year. The company noted that retail sales had been impacted by the timing of Easter, which this year was three weeks later than last year.
