Mixed Reaction from Industry Following Brexit Speech Confirming UK Will Leave the Single Market

18 Jan 2017 --- Theresa May’s Brexit plan speech yesterday, (January 17) where she stated Britain must leave the single market while pledging to get the freest possible trade deal for the UK, has caused mixed reactions from industry. The Prime Minister outlined government priorities for negotiations with the European Union, claiming that it is impossible for the UK to remain in the Single Market as this would mean “not leaving the EU at all.”

Profits Surge at Nordzucker Ahead of Removal of EU Sugar Quotas

16 Jan 2017 --- More stable markets, cost-cutting and greater volume sales sent nine-month profits surging from €0.4m ($0.42m) to €81.7m ($87m) at Europe’s second biggest sugar producer. Germany’s Nordzucker group reported revenues of €1.3bn ($1.4m), up nine percent on the year, in the nine months to 30 November 2016.

Cargill Makes Progress on Building Deforestation-Free Supply Chains

16 Jan 2017 --- In a report recently issued, Cargill presented progress on its efforts to meet its commitment to eliminate deforestation from its supply chains. The first Cargill Report on Forests covers on-the-ground actions within six priority supply chains and global collaborations to advance sustainable agriculture. Cargill worked with numerous global partners to engage more than 148,000 farmers and established a baseline for measuring tree cover loss by mapping the sourcing areas of nearly 2,000 locations across 14 countries.
