Rousselot: Next-generation collagen peptides, gelatin innovations and new research at Vitafoods

Ahead of the upcoming Vitafoods trade show (May 14–16), the Rousselot team tells us what collagen and gelatin innovations to expect at the company’s stand (E106). Pierre-Albert Thomas, global director of functional ingredients, details Rousselot’s solution to incorporate liquids in functional gummies protected by a gelatin shell. Florencia Moreno Torres-McLaverty, global business development manager of health and nutrition, teases a new Rousselot platform based on a “new generation” of collagen peptides with targeted health and wellness benefits.

I'm a senior journalist at Nutrition Insights, and today I'm here with Florencia Morena Torres McClafferty, who's the Global Business Development Manager, health and nutrition at Rousselo, and Pierre Robert Thomas, who's the global director of functional ingredients at Rousselo, who are, both, going to share a little bit about what to expect at Vita Foods this year from Rousselo.
So, Florencia, let me start with you.
What will Rousseau focus on at Vita Foods this year and what can visitors expect?
We are sharing the new science focused on holistic -being of our flagship collagen peptide ingredient, peptin on one side.
On the other one, we are unveiling a new platform which is a new solution line, based on the new generation of collagen peptides, so this is completely new, in, in the market, so we're gonna give a very nice teaser about this, and of course, we are showcasing the leading gelatin solutions.

And to go into those gelatin solutions, Pierre Albert, what can you tell us about the innovations in gelatin that you'll feature at Vita Foods?
Yeah, sure.
So, at Rouslo we have an extensive portfolio of gelatins that are dedicated to dosage forms solutions, whether it is for pharmaceuticals or nutraceuticals market segments.
And we will showcase, exciting products.
One is stabby caps.
This is an innovation which is dedicated to soft gel solution and which enhances the stability of the soft gels over time.
The other, gelatin solution we will display is the Cymogel, which is unique gelatin solution that enables the manufacturing of functional gummies.
That's a market segment which is booming at the moment.
Both those solutions have been patented by by Rouslo, which is very relevant for our, our customers.
Interesting, and you've mentioned already a little bit.
Can you highlight some of the trends or developments that you expect in the supplement, delivery forms, and how Russula responds to those trends?
Yes, absolutely.
One segment that receives right now a lot of tractions where we see a lot of interest is the emerging segment of functional gummies.
So these are gummies in which you can add vitamins, minerals, other active substances.
How we support that, so I already mentioned earlier, the, the cymogel solution, but besides the product, besides the product solution, we have also invested in an application concept which we have named gummy caps.
This is actually a solution in which you can incorporate a liquid fill or plastic fuel.
Which, would protect the field due to the shell of gelatin.
So this is an innovation from our expertise center, and it is something which can be scaled up to industrial level.

And, Florencia, I understand that there's also some research that Russula will highlight on your collagen peptides.
What can you tell us about that?
Yeah, indeed.
So for Pan, we are revamping our Beauty from Within category, which includes 3 new studies around hair science, which is actually a pioneering study.
We have new studies on hydration, elasticity, wrinkle visibility, so that's on one hand.
But on the other Another one, we are always researching the collagen molecules, so we have actually recently published new studies around cognitive performance, sleep quality, and even gut health.
So all part of peptan as a holistic -being solution and this will also be presented throughout PFs.

And what is Russolo's latest discovery in collagen peptides, and what does it say on targeted health benefits?
In this case, this is a whole other thing different from, from Peptan and it's what we are going to tease about.
It's our new platform, the new generation of collagen peptides.
So, in this case, we are talking about pretty much a new process, in, in collagen that gives us a different product, that is focused.
On new, unique, and the key word is target benefits.
So benefits that were not focused on before, mainly around preventative health.
So again, just like a little teaser, the first one is going to be, focused on glucose, metabolism.
