Ilkka Ojansivu, sales director, spoke with us at PLMA about Raisio’s oat-based food solutions, highlighting oats’ natural thickening and stabilizing benefits in biscuits, bars, instant oatmeals, and dairy- or gluten-free products. He emphasized oats’ sustainability, nutrition, and clean label appeal amid rising consumer demands. Ojansivu also highlighted Raisio’s endosperm oat flour and oat bran concentrate for dairy and meat alternatives.

So what are you presenting at PMA this year?
We have a healthy oat-based breakfast and snack solutions like oat biscuits, bars, instant oatmeals, dairy alternative products, and then we have.
Really wide range of gluten-free oat ingredients also.
OK, great.
And what are some of the recent technological innovations Razio has introduced in oat-based food and beverage manufacturing to improve the taste and nutritional profile?
Recently we have studied a lot of different oat cultivars and also optimized processing technology to create kind of perfect oat barista drink.
And in the pipeline we have really exciting fiber related stuff coming up, so that's something to look forward to.
OK, great.
And what are the ingredients, applications in dairy and meat alternative products?
Oats in general are great ingredient for both, from, let's say nutritional perspective, sustainability, palatability perspective.
If I highlight two ingredients, our oat endosperm flour for dairy alternatives is excellent choice.
It's really fine, white flour that yields excellent end product.
And for the meat alternatives, for example, oat bran concentrate.
They bring a lot of nutritional value, but they are also optimal for extrusion and bring really good structure to the products.
OK.
And how does help manufacturers address the increasing consumer demand for sustainability and clean labels?
Oats Finished oats are really sustainable raw material because of our unique growing conditions in the north, and our meal is also carbon neutral, so that's one.
And regarding clean label, oats don't only bring nutritional value, but they have also our ingredients have stabilizing or thickening properties that can really help to formulate clean label products.
OK, and where do your ingredient system deliver the most value when it comes to cost savings.
Oats are very cost effective ingredient if you are looking for healthy nutrient-dense solutions and of course as we are one of the leading manufacturers, we have some benefits of scale that we can also roll out to our customers.
And what is the next big shift you are expecting in auto innovation in the future?
Fibers, fibrous, fibers, healthy eating, satiety, weight management.
I think it will in the food industry, it will all come down to fiber and we want to lead the way in that also, so stay tuned.
