After introducing first in Europe the chia seed (Salvia hispanica L.) for its exceptional nutritional value, BENEXIA is now bringing its chia oil to the European market: a very promising new product highly concentrated in omega 3 for the food and nutraceutical industry. The concept was presented at the Ingredia Nutritional booth.
Rob Wires at the Vita Foods in Geneva and I'm here with Dr.
Mark Dalian, who is a nutritionist who has worked a lot together with ingredients from the company Ingredia, and a product that they're launching here is called Bnexia Omega 3, which is based on chia oil.
Can you tell me what about the nutritional benefits of chia oil and how it could be adopted?
Oil is in fact highly concentrated in alpha linolenic acid, which is the basic component for the omega 3 channel.
It has also a very good stability.
The oil is very stable.
When you look at the amount of alpha linolenic acid, the ratio is really very, very good.
1.
6 for 3 omega 3, which is the highest ratio I would say at disposal.
It is in fact enhancing the metabolic pathway of omega 3, and as you know, a lot of diseases of our Western society are coming from that imbalance between omega 6 and 3.
Which is linked with cardiovascular diseases, cancers, overweight, so it is very interesting to put some alpha linolenic acid in your There's a lot of market opportunities right now considering the nutritional components of the diet at the moment.
A lot of opportunities.
What type of products could you imagine this being used in?
How much do you use this and what areas are being looked at?
You could use it as a whole.
It is used as a whole.
Some countries, South American countries, it's coming in from South America, from the Aztecs, but here in Europe you have to mix it.
Can proceed without Right now, OK, and beyond maybe the supplement industry, I thought some concepts, maybe even using it in a milk drink or yes, you could, even if I'm not a specialist on that.
I'm more working on the medical part.
So Mark, thank you very much.
Thank you.
