Taking New Natural Solutions Into Product Concepts

13 Dec 2013 | Naturex

Botanicals supplier Naturex presented a NAT market – a store stocked with natural products – at Food Ingredients Europe 2013. Naturex filled the shelves of the concept supermarket with a range of prototype products made using natural ingredients from its whole portfolio. Paul Janthial, Business Unit Director for Food & Beverage at Naturex, said: “An increasing number of consumers today want the products they buy in supermarkets to contain similar ingredients to those they have in their kitchen cupboards. This means manufacturers need to find natural and consumer-friendly solutions for their products.”

This is Rob Wires at the FIE in Frankfurt and I'm here with Paul Chanel from Naturx, and Naturx have come up with a kind of a supermarket style display here where they're highlighting some of the potential applications of natural ingredients.

Paul, can you show me some of the things that you're presenting here and how your ingredients can be adopted?

OK, so first thing, what, what we wanted to do this year at, at, at the FAE on the booth is kind of building a kind of real market, so not something really.

Completely out of the normal supermarket, but something which could be a quite standard supermarket, including products from everyday products as as a little bit different ones.

So if we can maybe start with the savory applications, we have 5 different ones.

Let's start with this one which is.

This is actually 11 of the markets in which we provide many solutions regarding preservation because these products are quite sensible to oxidation.

And with our rosemary-based antioxidant solutions, we managed to extend the shelf life of this product to prevent flavor development and basically in generally speaking, to avoid any oxidation problem.

So that kind of application is something which is really easier these days to.

In which we can use many new possibilities in the European Union because the regulation has just changed and we are now allowed to put more.

Rosemary extract rosemary extract is recognized as an antioxidant, and in Europe now we have higher maximum dosage limits which makes it possible to reach efficient levels for any kind of like that.

You've got some particularly innovative flavors that you're using here as for these kinds of.

So if we switch to these products, we have two different crisps.

Is based on papaya dried ingredients that we produce and combined with ginger ole raisin, which is bringing a typical ginger note, very typical, and it works quite in such crisp recipes.

The second one is sweet chili.

So in this one we Put a red bell pepper powder, which is also made from us, together with chili pepper olive raisin, and this is just to illustrate with two examples a combination of sweet and savory notes which work very , but there are thousands of possibilities like that.

What about your beverage applications?

OK, so with the beverage applications we have.

Chosen to produce functional concepts, so this is an immunity concept and this is an energy concept.

So both of them are based on approved claims regarding the EU list of.

So this one is based on vitamin C content which is not added to the product as such, but coming from a rosy extract which is naturally rich in vitamin C.

So with our extract you get enough vitamin C to position the product as immune.

Immunity enhancer.

This one is a kind of a green version of an energy drink, so we have called this green boost with several extracts that have proven efficiency towards energizing effects, so ginseng, guarana, and maca.

This combination is quite efficient to build such an energizing concept.

Finally, you have a few confectionery style concepts here.

So again, two functional concepts one on antioxidants, so this acts protect again based on an approved claim in the EU which is possible regarding the vitamin C content this time based on the Narola extract that we produce and that contains more than 32% of vitamin C without any.

Addition of vitamin C naturally occurring in the body.

And the second one is power, so an energizing jellied gum with some guarana extract providing caffeine, enough caffeine to get the claim on energy accepted by the EU finally.

I would like to underline this product which is colored with specific products that we produce that provide a standardizing color that bring enough color to such an application without being a coloring agent, so there is no additives, no colors actually in the sense of additives, there is no additives to color it.

It's only based on food concentrates.

Thank you very much.

Thank you.
