Once the deal is finalized, Wisconsin Whey Protein will become part of FrieslandCampina Ingredients, fulfilling its customers’ needs across the performance, active, and medical nutrition market segments.
Wisconsin Whey Protein is currently expanding its modern facilities, which are expected to “more than double” its whey protein isolate capacity. The company has over 40 years of experience producing whey protein concentrates, whey protein isolates, and lactose products, with headquarters in Darlington, Wisconsin.

Anne Peter Lindeboom, president of FrieslandCampina Ingredients, says: “By joining forces with Wisconsin Whey Protein, a respected producer of high-quality whey isolates with a strong focus on production and innovation, we bring together expanded capacity in the US with our deep expertise in protein technology, research, and application development.”

Expanding global footprint
Innovation opportunities in the protein segment are emerging as consumer awareness of the benefits of complete proteins and specific amino acids increases, according to FrieslandCampina, which aims to lead the global protein market with this acquisition.
Nearly 71% of consumers actively prioritize protein intake today, a major spike from 59% in 2022 and 67% in 2023, notes the International Food Information Council’s 2024 Food & Health Survey.
In recent years, FrieslandCampina has made significant investments to bolster its global footprint and innovation capabilities. These include an upcoming application center in North America, adding to recent launches in Asia and Europe, as well as significant expansions in whey protein capacity at various FrieslandCampina production sites in the Netherlands.
In October, FrieslandCampina received approval from the EU Commission for a merger with Belgian heavyweight Milcobel, which will support its 2023 restructuring program aimed at strengthening competitiveness and focusing on core markets.
