New concepts with plant-based extracts

16 Jun 2019 | Naturex

Naturex (now a Givaudan company) presented their Turmipure Gold solution. The ingredient is claimed to elevate turmeric to the next level by being instant water dispersible, 100 percent clean label and organic. It has a neutral taste a beautiful color, is very easy to formulate in beverages. It is also clinically proven to be more bioavailable than standard turmeric 95 percent cucruminoids at a low 300mg dose. At IFT 2019, the company presented several plant-based concepts to highlight the diversity of their portfolio and also how the taste masking properties of Givaudan’s flavors business can now be used to optimize the flavor of plant-based nutritionals.

This is Rob Wires of the IFT in New Orleans, and I'm here with Teresa Poli from Natrex, which is now a dividend company.

Teresa, you're highlighting several concepts here to kind of show the diversity of your portfolio.

Can you give some examples of some of the things you're showing here on the IFT show floor this year?

Absolutely.

So we're really excited about our plant-based portfolio and our fantastic spring lab has created several concepts.

We're talking about natural colors, and we're really excited to launch our ultimate blue spirulina, which is Trio.

Free.

We thought it'd be really fun to showcase it in a bubble tea because it's very on trend, as you can see from the blue, it's extremely Instagrammable, which is a word we're all using now.

And the idea is we really eat with our eyes first, so natural color is becoming more and more important to consumers as they're looking to evolve from synthetic to a natural source.

We also have our yellow from carrot, which you can also see, a beautiful yellow color.

We're also talking about botanicals, so we have a wonderful port.

Portfolio of natural botanicals and in our blue horchata we're showcasing clean energy, which is our yerba mate as as our green coffee extract and we also have our Acerola Life where we derive natural vitamin C from Acerola cherries.

So we're really excited about that natural energy, natural energy and the natural immunity, increasing your vitamin C.

Something very important is consumers are looking to really eat their vitamins and minerals versus taking supplements.

Supplements are still very important, but they're looking for alternative ways.

To increase their nutrition through the day.

OK, one of the nutritionists that's really trending right now is around turmeric.

Yes, what are you developing from that regard?

So we're very excited about our turmerure gold.

It is on the market, one of the most bioavailable formats of turmer.

It's extremely water soluble.

We have it in conventional and organic, and it's clinically proven to be more bioavailable in the blood versus traditional turmeric.

So we're really excited about it.

It displays a beautiful color, and turmeric traditionally does.

Gained quite a bit, so this does stain a lot less.

It has a very neutral flavor and as you can see it's very stable, and we're really excited and we've won an award in Europe, for neutral ingredients on one of the most new innovative products.

So we're really excited about this product.

OK.

And the other concept that you're presenting here, Oh, this is such an exciting one.

We're really proud of our new products, which is our fire roasted fruits and vegetables, an investment that we've made is.

To a fire roasted where we can actually create fire roasting and I hope you can see there's visual cues here.

We're able to take fruits and vegetables and fire roast them in our oven.

We can control how quickly, how long that they can be fire roasted.

We can control the flame.

Consumers are always looking for flavor adventure, and we're able to deliver that through real fruits and vegetables.

It's really exciting and you're going to try it later.

What's included in this example here?

So what we have here are two products.

One.

Is a mocajete, which is the top, so we make our own sauces, finished sauces, and that includes jalapenos and garlic juice and a lot of our core items, as as our fire roasted chipotle.

And then that is infused in a mayonnaise.

So alote has a mayonnaise and it has , a wonderful salsa and then cheese.

And in our, mayonnaise, we have our new EDTA replacer extra blend RN, and that is a combination of rosemary and spinach to help with lipid-based products to.

Extend shelf life, increase that flavor presence throughout the life of the product, and it's delicious.

And finally, Theresa, it's been several months now since you were kind of really integrated into the dividden portfolio.

What has that meant from a product development standpoint, and how have you kind of collaborated on some of these kind of concepts?

We are so excited about our new Givedon family.

We already have a very strong portfolio of plant-based ingredients, and now just by the nature of a lot of our products, sometimes there's some off notes, whether it's through.

Colors of botanicals and the portfolio of natural and organic maskers and flavors really gives us an edge to help create finished solutions for our customers.

What might be some examples of how you might do that?

So I guess for our natural colors sometimes, and we also have some red radish and beetroot, sometimes we'll detect a slight off note from the real products and we're able to apply a fantastic masker and partner with our applications team at Giveon in order to help modify that.

Theresa, thank you very much.

Thank you.
