Novozymes Among World’s 100 Most Sustainable Companies

The list isolates the top 10% of companies from a field of 3,000 global stocks that are ranked based on 10 indicators covering both sustainability standards and social factors.

29 Jan 2010 --- Once again this year Novozymes has been named in the Global 100 Most Sustainable Corporations in the World. The ranking was announced in Davos, Switzerland, at the World Economic Forum.

The listing of the top 100 most sustainable corporations in the world is an annual project initiated by the Canadian Magazine Corporate Knights.

Executive Vice President Thomas Nagy, Novozymes, says: “Creating sustainable solutions is at the center of Novozymes’ business, and it's therefore a great acknowledgement of our big efforts to promote sustainable solutions. At Novozymes we not only strive to be sustainable in how we operate; we also work hard to create sustainable economic and environment-friendly solutions for a global range of customers. As an example, our products globally reduced CO2 emissions by 27 megatons in 2009.”

The list isolates the top 10% of companies from a field of 3,000 global stocks that are ranked based on 10 indicators covering both sustainability standards and social factors.

The 2010 Global 100 measures companies against an objective "sustainable path" standard for energy, carbon, water, and waste ratios and against social indicators such as CEO-to-average worker pay and diversity of board directors. Other indicators are sustainability leadership, remuneration, innovation capacity, and transparency.

In September 2009 Novozymes was ranked leader of the biotechnology sector by the global Dow Jones’ Sustainability Index. More recently, Novozymes achieved a Gold Class rating and sector leader ranking from SAM (Sustainable Asset Management) in the Sustainability Yearbook published on January 26, 2010.
