Cargill to Build 110 Million-Gallon Ethanol Plant in Nebraska
The plant would source corn – about 41 million bushels annually – from the Cargill elevator located adjacent to it. Cargill would also market and distribute the plant’s output.
Like the proposed Minnesota site, the Wood River plant would have an exclusive relationship with Cargill for certain services. Cargill would also market and distribute the plant’s output, which, in addition to ethanol, would include more than 375,000 tons of dry distiller grain for animal feed annually.
Biofuel Solutions is currently finalizing its plans and expects to make the investment in part based on the nearby railway and highway systems and strong community support. The company is working with the City of Wood River to confirm that the proposed plant meets all required environmental ordinances, state and federal laws. All environmental permits required for construction have been filed and are pending approval from the Nebraska Department of Environmental Quality. The Delta-T/TIC Alliance, which is currently building the Midwest Grains Processors facility in Riga, MI, and will also be building the Fairmont plant has been selected to build and provide technology for the Woodriver facility. Biofuel Solutions expects to begin construction in the first quarter of 2006.
Beyond creating demand for up to 41 million bushels of corn, the plant is expected to create approximately 50 full-time jobs. Biofuel Solutions plans to hire locally. Project Manager Dan Simon, an executive vice president with Biofuel Solutions, stated, “we have been impressed by the business friendly atmosphere that we have encountered thus far and expect to be able to build on this as we move forward in partnership with the local community to construct this facility.”
