This is Rob Wires at Vita Foods Asia in Hong Kong, and I'm here with Fernando Cartagena from Monteluter and Monteluder are highlighting their metabolaid product, which is useful for natural support for metallic metabolic syndrome.
Fernando, can you tell me about the potential for this product in Asia and tell me a little bit more about this product?
We did some research and found out that Asia was a big market in terms of metabolic syndrome.
Nutrition in general in Asia is getting poorer with more industrialization, so we thought there could be a lot of potential for this type of ingredients, natural ingredients that could help prevent diabetes and could help reduce obesity.
So we think there is a lot of potential in Asian countries.
What is it?
What's it derived from?
So it's a natural formula derived from two.
Plants were knowncus extract, lemon verbena extract, they have been used worldwide for a long time, so it's a natural composition of plants that have a long history of use, so that makes it easier for companies to use it into their products.
OK, and you're doing some research into this product at the moment.
Can you say some of the results of the studies coming out of this?
Yeah, we just finished a clinical study we did with Miguel and Results show that people or the group that were taking this formula metabolate had a significant reduction of obesity of body weight, as as waist circumference, and also the heart rate was reduced in the group that were taking placebo quite significantly in comparison with placebo and glucose was also reduced, so it's a Combination is a formula that can help in targeting the five conditions that cover the metabolic syndrome in just one ingredient.
That's why we think it could be very interesting for food supplement companies as as food companies, OK, because what type of applications would it be suitable for?
When we designed metabo Aid, we decided to make it as versatile as possible, so.
It is soluble in water, so if a company wants to use it in a beverage, there is no problem.
We also did some tests in dairy, and in dairy matrics it works very in terms of organic properties.
There is no problem, so companies could add it to a dairy products, so you can use it in food supplements, of course, tablets, capsules, so it has a lot of possibilities.
OK, and when will we start seeing commercial applications?
I would say that by the beginning of next year, probably we will start getting companies using it.
We are promoting it right now in Asia.
We started promoting in Vital Foods in Geneva in Europe in May, and I think by the beginning of next year, mid of next year, we will start seeing some products in the market.
OK, where do you expect those to to take place first?
Probably in Europe or even maybe the US at the moment we are working on partnering with companies where we could co-finance a pilot launch.
So we would also we are willing to help you launching this product, and many European companies have shown interest in this kind of partnering in order to launch a product like this because you're looking for an investment from Europe.
Yes, we are at the moment applying for.
The European Union program called Age 2020, it's composed of three stages.
First stage, you present the idea.
If you are successful, you pass into stage number 2, where you, if you are successful, you present your idea with more details, how you would, commercialize it, what kind of research you would do, how it would be successful, and in case you succeed in this stage, then you would get something like 2 million.
Euro in order to finance research, we would like to get health claim with this formulation.
And we are very hopeful about this formula because in stage number one of this European Union program we were ranked number one in the whole of Europe for the health group.
So we are quite hopeful about this.
When, when will you hear more about this?
By the end of the year we should have already a decision by the European Union.
