Suppliers
This is wires at the CL in Paris and I'm here with Rue von Popel from Olam, and, can you tell me a bit about the clean label trend and how it's happening in the sector and what it means for ingredients suppliers such as yourself?
What you'll see is that consumers want to know more about what they eat, what they consume.
I think our portfolio that we bring to the market, spices and vegetable ingredients from exactly meet that trend.
We'd like to drive transparency throughout the whole supply chain.
Basically what we do different than many others is that we bring product to our customers that make typically food out of it for savory applications that are fully traced back to the beginning of the supply chain.
In our case, it starts in certain products with seed breeding.
It starts with Contract farming as processing in the origins and then we ship it as ingredients to our final customers.
How can you ensure that?
How do you make sure that we own a major part of that supply chain and where we cannot, we deal with smallholder farmers.
And we work with them directly.
I think all across smallholder farmers' relationships are very important.
What are you doing to actively market this or how are you promoting it?
We're just transparent about it, so we tell our customers where the products come from.
We tell our customers what we do with it.
They can come and look at our facilities anytime, and it also ends as a clean product on their label.
Are there any kind of trends that you see happening in spices?
Are there particular types of spices that you're getting more requests for recently than others?
The good thing about our portfolio is that there's no negative health connotations with it.
The amount that's being consumed is low and there's no negative health issues related to vegetables as as spices.
So what we see look at food, people consume too much salt, they consume too much sugar, and they eat too fat foods.
Our ingredients are ideal ingredients for foods to avoid too much salt in it.
It helps create taste, and again, nobody, no consumer would worry about pepper being one of the ingredients or onion on that list, and that transparency, clean label, plays directly in our favor.
Thank you very much.
You're welcome.
