Strong fluctuations of the blood sugar level, known as the "yo-yo effect", have been linked to the onset of obesity and Diabetes II. These too can be avoided through a low GI diet.For several years, the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) have advised all industrialized nations should base their diets on low GI foods in order to reduce the increase in numbers of these diseases.
