Sudan I hits KFC
18 Mar 2005
Stops selling New Orleans roast chicken wings and chicken burgers.
18/03/05 Xinhua News Agency reports 1,200 KFC outlets in China have stopped selling New Orleans roast chicken wings and chicken burgers after cancer-causing food coloring, Sudan I, was found in the sauce.
According to a statement released on Wednesday by Yum, KFC's parent company, the remaining suspect sauce will be destroyed.
Sudan I is a red dye used for coloring solvents, oils, waxes, petroleum products and shoe and floor polishes. It cannot safely be used in food as it can increase the risk of cancer.
