Non-GM Verification Scheme Opens Opportunities For Export to North America
05 Mar 2014 --- Following a successful trial period, Cert ID Europe, the authority on Non-GM certification has launched a unique new Non-GM Verification system designed for food manufacturers and ingredient suppliers who wish to avoid genetically modified ingredients but who do not wish to undertake complete Non-GM Certification.
The scheme is particularly suitable for European food producers and manufacturers wishing to target the North American market where awareness of GM issues is increasing.
Rather than full certification which involves site visits and audits, the new Cert ID Non-GM Verification Scheme reviews a client’s documentary evidence and assesses the risk of GM being present in the supply chain. This ‘desktop review’ approach means that suppliers can have their products verified by a leading certification body in the field without the cost and commitment of full scale certification and without compromising the rigour that their customers expect from Cert ID.
One business which has already benefitted is DE Thomadakis & Sons Ltd, a Greek exporter which has had its range of olives, olive oil, Tahini and honey marketed under the Tresors de Grece brand verified as non-GM under the Cert ID scheme. DE Thomadakis & Sons believes Non-GM is an important consideration for its target consumers and builds upon its all-natural, locally produced ethos.
