26 Mar 2012 --- Nestlé Waters joined the rest of the world to commemorate this year’s edition of World Water Day which took place on 22 March 2012. In line with the theme of the 2012 World Water Day – ‘Water and Food Security’, Nestlé Waters Nigeria demonstrated its commitment by organizing a Water and Hydration Education Programme for 100 pupils and 12 teachers from 10 schools in Lagos and Ogun States.
The event took place at the Nestlé Waters Plant at Agbara, Ogun State. The schools were grouped and taken on a factory tour followed by a presentation on ‘Water and Food Security’ by Mrs Uche Ibikunle - an expert on water resources management. This was followed by an interactive questions and answers segment with Mr Olu-Ayeni, the Country Business Manager, Nestlé Waters Nigeria. Mr Olu-Ayeni advised that the water conservation habits imbibed by the pupils should be put into full practice at all times in order to preserve water for the future. “We only have 3% of freshwater on our planet, so it is our collective duty to continually conserve water which is very important for the food security of the future generations.”
In addition, the pupils presented Aqua bodies (a game on Water Education for Teachers) where they showed their understanding on the importance of water in the body and their environment. A representative from the State Universal Basic Education (SUBEB), Mrs Mayinka commended Nestlé Waters for taking the initiative by commemorating the World Water Day with an educational programme that fully engaged the pupils in a practical way.
As part of the company’s effort in Creating Shared Value, Nestlé Nigeria provides portable water for the people in the Agbara community.
