04 Feb 2016 --- What does a Red Fire Monkey drink? We’ll find out on February 8th when Marin Brewing Company welcomes in the Chinese New Year, the year of the Red Fire Monkey.
To mark the week-long occasion, they’ll be tapping their E.S. Chi Herbal Ale. The perfect beer for a celebrating more than 4700 years of history.
E.S. Chi is a lively and satisfying ale blended with Chinese herbs they hope will boost your internal chi, and leave you with a calm and cozy feeling in your stomach.
Their E.S Chi is a beer they only brew once a year in celebration of the Chinese New Year. It’s a collaboration beer that has been a Marin Brewing tradition for years. It’s the result of an ongoing relationship with Master Herbalist Yen-Wei Choong, Lic. Acupuncturist. Dr. Choong is the director of Yellow Emperor Natural Healing Center and Zen Garden: Chinese Healing Herbs, in San Anselmo, CA
Their Brewmaster Arne Johnson, and Dr. Choong have worked closely together over the years to ensure the annual brew is a continued success. Starting with their E.S.B base, Dr. Choong adds more than 38 pounds of secret herbs to create a truly one of a kind beer. Dr. Choong says the herbs are perfectly matched with the fermentation of barley to enhance and cultivate the “Earth” element where nourishment comes from.
E.S. Chi fans describe the ale as long and satisfying with just a slight bit of residual earthy sweetness. Others lavish praise on the herbal ale for its unique and complete flavors. Everyone agrees it’s a great food beer.
