Kraft Foods Launches New Program to Support People With Diabetes
There are currently more than 14 million people in the United States diagnosed with diabetes, and many more who are considered to have pre-diabetes. This effort is part of the company's continued focus on programs relevant for consumers.
23/08/07 Kraft Foods Inc. has announced a new initiative designed to provide support for the millions of Americans living with diabetes. The initiative, Good Eating, Good Living, is a syndicated radio show, ongoing direct mail publication and Website intended for people with diabetes and their caregivers. There are currently more than 14 million people in the United States diagnosed with diabetes, and many more who are considered to have pre-diabetes. This effort is part of the company's continued focus on programs that are most relevant for consumers and important to growing its business.
"Research shows that many people with diabetes often feel isolated and confused, and most do not have direct access to nutrition and fitness consultants," said Andrea Brown, Sr. Director, Strategic Marketing Initiatives, Kraft Foods. "Through Good Eating, Good Living, we will offer the much-needed education, food solutions, lifestyle tips and support this community is looking for, so that they can better manage their condition."
The Good Eating, Good Living radio show is hosted by health and lifestyle expert and registered physician assistant Amy Hendel, R-PA, features segments with registered dietitian and certified diabetes educator, Edye Wagner, RD, CDE, and is scheduled to air for 22 episodes beginning August 25 in cities across the country.
The show will provide positive support and solutions for listeners to help them navigate the day-to-day challenges of dealing with diabetes. Each episode will feature guest experts to address diabetes-related topics, meal and recipe ideas, and nutrition and fitness tips. Listeners can call 1-888-KRAFT4U with additional diabetes-related questions; and select nutrition questions will be answered on the air each week by Wagner.
"Diet and exercise are both key ingredients in living a healthy lifestyle, and the Good Eating, Good Living radio show gives people a new and exciting forum to uncover facts about diabetes," said Amy Hendel, host Good Eating, Good Living. "The good news for the millions with this disease is that by choosing Kraft products they don't have to deprive themselves of their favorite foods or sacrifice flavor."
A wide variety of Kraft products can fit into a well-balanced diet, and people living with diabetes can still enjoy great-tasting, convenient foods and their favorite brands. From Post Shredded Wheat cereal, Triscuits crackers, Crystal Light and select South Beach Diet products, many popular everyday Kraft brand items can be good options for people with diabetes. Individuals should work out a meal plan with a registered dietitian, certified diabetes educator or other health care provider.
