Investigation Launched into Fire at Nordzucker Facility
01 Jul 2014 --- The fire in silo 9 at the sugar plant in Uelzen has been extinguished and clean-up and restoration work has now begun. Investigations into the cause of the blaze were also launched by experts today.
Efforts to extinguish the flames were halted on Friday evening after the fire in silo 9 at the sugar plant in Uelzen broke out last Thursday. No more embers were discovered over the weekend either, leading Nordzucker to believe that the fire has been extinguished. Following the fire, investigations to determine the cause of the blaze are now a priority. This morning, 30 June, large-fire experts from the public prosecution and insurance offices arrived and began their investigations.
As an additional measure to redress the damage caused by the fire, a concept is currently being developed to remove the bridge that connects both silos. This is necessary in order to be able to begin repairs to the roof of silo 8 as quickly as possible.
Nordzucker would like to take this opportunity to express thanks for the patience and understanding extended as a result of the interference caused by the fire and extinguishing efforts. Nordzucker is also extremely grateful for the support and the willingness to help which came from all corners of Uelzen and the surrounding area.
