IFF launch grapefruit flavor alternatives

The release of a range of grapefruit flavor alternatives and oil extenders comes in response to the global grapefruit shortage.

09/02/05 International Flavors & Fragrances Inc. (IFF) has announced today the release of a range of grapefruit flavor alternatives and oil extenders in response to the global grapefruit shortage. The shortage resulted from a series of hurricanes that devastated the Indian River region in Florida last year – the largest producer of grapefruit in the world. As a market leader in grapefruit compounded flavors, IFF is uniquely positioned to create alternative flavors and extenders that keep grapefruit tonality while containing costs in a difficult market.
IFF’s new flavors range in character from white or pink grapefruit to a citrus blend with broad appeal. Created without the use of grapefruit oils or extracts, the flavors are available in a variety of forms for easy application to liquid or dry beverages and confections and are ideal for new product formulations.
IFF sensory testing confirms that IFF Grapefruit Oil Extenders effectively replace single-strength and five-fold grapefruit oils. Panelists found no difference between formulations with 100% grapefruit oil and those using only 50% with the extenders. These extenders are made from citrus fractions and IFF proprietary natural ingredients and are considered Global Natural.
