FrieslandCampina Invests in Belgian Plant in Bornem
At the end of January, FrieslandCampina announced its investment plans for the production plant in Aalter. Over a year and a half, the company will invest EUR 36 million and add 90 jobs at this location.
2/10/2011 --- The international dairy organisation FrieslandCampina will invest an amount of EUR 3 million in the Belgian production plant in Bornem. The investment will go towards the installation of new production lines, among other things, and will result in 20 new jobs in 2011.
At the end of January, FrieslandCampina announced its investment plans for the production plant in Aalter. Over a year and a half, the company will invest EUR 36 million and add 90 jobs at this location. Now, a further investment of EUR 3 million in Bornem has been added to this sum. The outlay is intended for the installation of new production lines and the refurbishment of the existing infrastructure. As a result, production capacity will increase by 35%. And in the future, Bornem will be able to produce an even broader range of packaging materials for dairy products for both the Belgian and international markets.
The expansion in Bornem will be finalised by mid-2011. Because thorough education and training are essential, recruitment efforts have already started in Bornem to find some 20 new, mainly technically skilled, staff members. Lex André, Plant Manager of FrieslandCampina in Bornem, is happy with FrieslandCampina’s investments in Belgium. ‘As a result of this project, the Bornem plant will be given a new impulse in both volumes and employment. We will grab this opportunity with both hands to further expand on our position. We therefore also attach great importance to the continued education of our current and future staff members.’
Until now, the factory in Bornem has been producing the Cécémel, Fristi, Nutroma and Extran brands in glass bottles, PET bottles, cans and aluminium single-serving cups. Once the investment project is finalised, the plant will also add Friesche Vlag Goudband, Halvamel and organic coffee creamer in bottles, cans and single-serving cups to its range of products.
