FIT Kids Act Welcomed by Grocery Manufacturers Association
The FIT Kids Act would increase children’s physical activity throughout the school day and ensure that they learn how to live healthy lives through exercise and diet.
3/16/2011 --- The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) has applauded Senator Tom Harkin (D-IA) and Representatives Ron Kind (D-WI), Jim Gerlach (R-PA), Jay Inslee (D-WA) and Tim Johnson (R-IL) for the reintroduction of the Fitness Integrated with Teaching (FIT) Kids Act in the House and Senate.
“By providing consumers with the products, tools and information they need to construct a healthy diet and lead a more active lifestyle, America’s food and beverage companies are committed to playing a leadership role to reverse the trend of childhood obesity within a generation,” said GMA President and CEO Pamela G. Bailey. “Schools are a vital component in this effort. To that end, we applaudSenator Harkin and Representatives Kind, Gerlach, Inslee and Johnson for introducing the FIT Kids Act and for their unwavering commitment to win the battle against childhood obesity.”
The FIT Kids Act would increase children’s physical activity throughout the school day and ensure that they learn how to live healthy lives through exercise and diet.
“Eating a balanced diet and getting plenty of exercise is the key to achieving and maintaining a healthy lifestyle,” said Bailey. “It’s vital that America’s school children are all afforded the opportunity to learn this critical life lesson. To help meet this important goal, we strongly encourage more members of Congress to get on board by cosponsoring the FIT Kids Act.”
