The patent is part of TSI’s comprehensive intellectual property portfolio, which includes both domestic and international patent applications.
27/07/05 Technical Sourcing International, Inc. (TSI) has announced that one of its international patent applications, entitled “Fenugreek Seed Bio-Active Compositions and Methods for Extracting Same,” received a favorable review by the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), acting as the International Preliminary Examining Authority on behalf of the World Intellectual Property Organization. The patent is part of TSI’s comprehensive intellectual property portfolio, which includes both domestic and international patent applications.
“TSI is committed to developing novel nutraceutical ingredients that progress our customers’ future,” stated Larry Kolb, TSI’s president. “TSI considers its patent portfolio to be a valuable asset of the company and is therefore committed to protecting and preserving those rights against any potential infringers.”
On June 14, 2005, TSI received written correspondence from the USPTO indicating that the subject matter described within the application met the criteria for patentability, thus possessing novelty, inventive step, and industrial applicability as compared to the known prior art teachings and references. The patent covers methods for supporting metabolism and transportation of glucose and carbohydrates into skeletal muscle cells by the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a composition of bio-active compounds extracted from fenugreek seeds, and methods for performing weight management by the administration of a therapeutically effective amount of a composition comprising 4-hydroxyisoleucine and one or more amino acids selected from the group consisting of arginine, aspartate, threonine, serine, glutamate, proline, glycine, alanine, cysteine, valine, methionine, isoleucine, leucine, tryptophan, phenylalanine, ornithine, lysine, histidine, and gamma-aminobutyrate.
TSI said that it is confident that this official communication from the International Preliminary Examination Authority signals the development of additional valid and enforceable rights in the areas of supporting metabolism and transportation of glucose and carbohydrates into muscle cells and methods for performing weight management.
