Will stop its plantings on Feb. 19
03/02/06 Del Monte Fresh Produce has said that it will stop planting pineapple at its Kunia operations on Feb. 19 due to costs, increased competition and its inability to obtain a long-term extension of its current land-lease agreement.
The company said it will work with its employees and union representatives to reduce the impact on employees and is discussing measures to help its workers.
Del Monte said it was no longer economically feasible to continue producing pineapple in Hawaii because of increased planting of pineapple at lower costs in other parts of the world.
