Danone Posts Strong First Half Performance
Danone said net profit came in at 704 million euro, up from 346 million euro in the same period last year. Last year's figure was hit by a 200 million euro provision on its home and office water delivery business.
03/08/06 Groupe Danone has reported a very strong increase in like-for-like sales and underlying earnings per share with excellent like-for-like sales growth in 2nd-quarter 2006: +8.9% and its best ever half for sales growth at +9%.
Danone said net profit came in at 704 million euro (US$899 million), up from 346 million euro (US$442 million) in the same period last year. The result beat analysts' expected first-half net profit of euro633 million (US$809 million). Last year's figure was hit by a euro200 million (US$255 million) provision on its home and office water delivery business.
Trading operating margin increased +30 basis points on a like-for-like basis with a very strong increase in underlying EPS: +25% (fully diluted from continuing activities). Like-for-like sales growth objective for 2006 raised: +7% to +8% with trading operating margin progression objective confirmed (+20 to +40 basis points on a like-for-like basis)
