Cargill to Sell Unity, Saskatchewan Grain Elevator
Cargill's Unity staff will continue to source grain from producers in Unity and the surrounding area for delivery to three of its nearby grain facilities in North Battleford, Vermilion, and Kindersley.
01 Sep 2009 --- Cargill Limited has announced it is selling its Unity, Saskatchewan grain elevator to GL Southgate Farms Ltd. As part of the agreement, Cargill will continue to provide grain marketing support and crop inputs products and services to area producers. The transaction is expected to be completed in early September.
Cargill's Unity staff will continue to source grain from producers in Unity and the surrounding area for delivery to three of its nearby grain facilities in North Battleford, Vermilion, and Kindersley. Cargill also has off-farm grain storage capabilities with Prairie Malt Limited in Biggar and Horizon Milling in Saskatoon. Cargill will retain ownership of its crop input assets in Unity, including a crop protection warehouse, a liquid-fertilizer tank farm, and a dry-fertilizer blending facility.
"The decision to sell our Unity grain elevator was not easy and is in no way a reflection of the great work provided by our professional staff over the years," said Bert Benoit, Cargill's Twin Rivers Farm Service Group Manager. "However, through our realigned network, we will continue to provide distinctive grain marketing and crop input services that farmers have grown to value and trust."
Cargill's facility manager, Tracy David, will continue to manage the crop input business in Unity along with local staff. Sara Yuzak, Cargill's local farm marketing representative, will continue to support area crop producers' farm business needs.
