Canandaigua Wine Company renamed as Centerra Wine Company
The new name and logo reflect the company’s transformation in recent years to a broad-based company that is the leader in U.S. premium and super-premium wines.
07/03/06 Canandaigua Wine Company announced it is changing its name to Centerra Wine Company. The new name and logo reflect the company’s transformation in recent years to a broad-based company that is the leader in U.S. premium and super-premium wines. The Centerra Wine Company portfolio consists of leading, nationally distributed brands, including many of the most highly sought-after wines available on- and offpremise.
The newly-named Centerra Wine Company will continue to be headquartered in Canandaigua, New York, as one of the four independent operating companies within Constellation Wines U.S. Once known for its leading specialty wine brands, the company’s reputation has expanded and evolved in recent years through a combination of organic growth, new product introductions, and acquisitions.
In 2004, as part of Constellation Brands’ acquisition of The Robert Mondavi Corporation, the former Canandaigua Wine Company began marketing and selling Robert Mondavi Private Selection and Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi. More recently, it launched new brands such as 3 Blind Moose; Trove, a three-liter premium wine in a box; and the ultra-premium, Australian wine Houghton. In addition, the highly-regarded Ravenswood brand was added to the portfolio on March 1, thus enhancing and solidifying the company’s leadership position as a premium and super-premium wine company.
Popular-priced and specialty wine brands such as Cook’s, Arbor Mist, Vendange, Inglenook, and Paul Masson Brandy round out Centerra Wine Company’s portfolio of quality wines available at a range of price points.
The Canandaigua Winery in Canandaigua, NY, the largest winery on the East Coast, will retain its name and continue to operate as usual as part of Centerra Wine Company.
The new name, Centerra Wine Company, is derived from the words “center” and “terra.” The word “center” reflects Centerra Wine Company’s position as the largest sales and marketing arm for Constellation Wines U.S., selling a broad-based portfolio of leadership brands that are nationally distributed in all channels. The use of the word “terra” conveys the intrinsic role that grapes, vineyards, and craftsmanship play in the creation of our portfolio of high quality wines. The logo mark itself not only reinforces the "C" of the Centerra name, but also creates a wine glass shape, designed with an upward motion that represents the company’s commitment to growth. This shape in the wine glass portrays two visual concepts — wine within the glass, and a vineyard with its rows of grapevines.
Centerra Wine Company offers a broad spectrum of leading brands and is the largest independent sales and marketing company under Constellation Wines U.S. In addition to Centerra Wine Company, Constellation Wine U.S. also includes Icon Estates, Pacific Wine Partners, and North Lake Wines which are part of the world’s largest wine business, which is an operating division of Constellation Brands, Inc. Centerra Wine Company’s leading brands include Alice White, Almaden, Arbor Mist, Cook’s, Covey Run, Inglenook, Manischewitz, Paul Masson Brandy, Robert Mondavi Private Selection, Talus Collection, Taylor Desserts, Vendange, Ravenswood, and Woodbridge by Robert Mondavi.
