Arla Foods Ingredients’ Doubles Capacity of Danish Whey Processing Facility

Investments in excess of 57 million Euro have close to doubled the capacity of Arla Foods Ingredients’ whey processing facility in Denmark, where an official inauguration ceremony takes place today.

4 Feb 2013 --- Now one of the biggest of its kind in Europe, the plant brings an important boost to international supplies of speciality whey proteins in the face of growing market demand.

The additional spray-drying tower, associated processing lines and new filtration plant have enabled Arla Foods Ingredients to expand production of key products in its nutritional portfolio.

This includes a doubling of alpha-lactalbumin production – a protein increasingly sought-after by manufacturers of infant and sports nutrition and functional foods.

A dedicated processing line has also upgraded caseinoglycomacropeptide (CGMP) production from pilot-scale to full-scale. Developed for commercial production in the Arla Foods Ingredients R&D labs, CGMP is a valuable protein source for those with the rare genetic condition phenylketonuria (PKU).

“This is a very important expansion. It gives us a modern plant with top standards of hygiene and the lowest possible energy consumption. That means our products have the highest possible quality, as demanded by the market,” says site director Erik Vesløv.
