Aker BioMarine Grants Krill Patent in Australia
The patent also contains claims covering extraction of krill oil from “a denatured krill product,” e.g. a krill meal or a powder. These claims are not limited to any specific extraction method and thus encompass both solvent and supercritical fluid extraction.
30 April 2012 --- Aker BioMarine is pleased to announce the unopposed grant of Australian Patent No. 2008231570 containing claims covering, among other things, a krill oil composition containing astaxanthin in the range from about 400 to about 2,500 mg/kg and ether phospholipids in the range of from about 3 to 10%.
The patent also contains claims covering extraction of krill oil from “a denatured krill product,” e.g. a krill meal or a powder. These claims are not limited to any specific extraction method and thus encompass both solvent and supercritical fluid extraction.
“Aker BioMarine’s Patent Group started patenting specific krill oil technology back in 2006 and we are pleased to have entered the phase where the early patent applications are granted. In particular, this is the first granted and enforceable krill oil patent in Australia, and since it contains claims covering our product and our core production technology it will provide unique benefits to our current and future customers in this attractive market.” stated Matts Johansen, Aker BioMarine’s EVP for Downstream Operations.
