200 Jobs to Go at Cadbury Bournville
16 Jan 2015 --- Mondelez International has announced that it will be making 200 employees redundant in its Birmingham, UK, plant as part of an efficiency drive announced last year.
The company, which took over the British chocolate maker in 2010 has invested £75m in updating its equipment and machinery in order to make it more efficient and competitive. It currently makes Cadbury’s iconic products Dairy Milk, Creme Egg and Wispa.
Union Unite said it was pleased with the move, which would only involve voluntary redundancies and very good terms. Most of the lay-offs would be for older workers who had been there for many years, it said. The union also said that the investment in equipment would make the site more competitive and secure its future for up to 25 years.
The site currently employs around 900 staff.
