Runamok Maple Launches Collection of Barrel-Aged Maple Syrups
26 Oct 2016 --- Runamok Maple, a maker of all-natural, organic maple syrup that’s produced from maple trees located along the northwest slopes of Vermont’s Mount Mansfield, have announced the its unique collection of pure, infused, smoked, and barrel-aged maple syrups are now available for online purchase at runamokmaple.com, and can be shipped nationwide as well as to a variety of international locations.
Based in picturesque Cambridge, Vermont, Runamok Maple is the brainchild of co-founders and husband and wife duo, Eric and Laura Sorkin, who left their jobs in Washington D.C. 17 years ago to pursue farming, and have never looked back. Together, along with the Runamok crew, the team manages taps on 81,000 maple trees and monitors over 600 miles of tubing in order to bring pure maple syrup, one of Mother Nature’s most exquisite pleasures, to consumers near and far.
Runamok Maple is redefining maple from tree to table. They pride themselves on offering the consumer a certified organic line of maple syrup that features only the purest, natural ingredients and a one-of-a-kind flavor profile that’s unlike anything else available on the market. Alongside the signature Sugarmaker’s Cut, the brand’s collection boasts nine unique and unexpected varieties of maple syrup, including Bourbon Barrel-Aged, Rye Whiskey Barrel-Aged, Rum Barrel-Aged, Pecan Wood Smoked, Makrut Lime-Leaf Infused, Hibiscus Flower Infused, Elderberry Infused, Cinnamon + Vanilla Infused, and Cardamom Infused.
Rooted in a culinary background, Eric and Laura’s attention to detail and the way they view the versatility of maple syrup has shaped both how they create the product as well as how they educate the consumer on the various ways maple syrup can be incorporated into food and beverages.
“At Runamok Maple, we are changing the way people look at and use maple syrup. We’ve made it our mission to craft great tasting, small batch production syrups that are suited to everything from cooking and baking to mixing with spirits,” said Eric Sorkin. “Our maple syrups are used by families, home cooks, mixologists, and culinary professionals, all of whom have found our unique flavors to be a distinctively sweet addition to both their favorite recipes and everyday lives.”
Runamok Maple’s products start with the brand’s signature Sugarmaker’s Cut, which Eric and Laura refer to as “the season’s best maple syrup.” Throughout the maple season, the flavor of the syrup changes in character, expressing notes of caramel and honey as well as variations in vanilla and buttery-ness. The team at Runamok tastes the syrup daily to find the batches that have the perfect balance of all of these characteristics. When it has reached its peak, Runamok Maple sets aside those batches for their Sugarmaker’s Cut.
Beyond the Sugarmaker’s Cut, Eric and Laura have created a unique line of infused, barrel-aged, and smoked maple syrups. The barrel-aged syrups are made by pouring syrup into recently emptied bourbon, rye, or rum barrels and letting it age for as long as a year. The maple absorbs the essence of the spirit without the alcohol, resulting in the perfect marriage of complementary flavors. The smoked syrup is made through a proprietary method using pecan wood, which they have found gives just the right hint of smoke without being overpowering. The infused syrups are created by adding carefully curated herbs or spices to heated syrup and letting it sit until it reaches perfection.
