The business outlook for packaging

Hans-Joachim Boekstegers, Director and CEO of Multivac has adopted a clear position on the EU's Plastics Strategy, which he has outlined at Anuga FoodTec in Cologne. One-third of the plastics-based packaging waste ends up in the environment, largely in the oceans, without any regulation, and in future, there is likely to be a rise in packaging production. All plastic packaging on the EU market will be recyclable by 2030, the consumption of single-use plastics will be reduced and the intentional use of microplastics will be restricted. Boekstegers notes: “This is the first time in my career that a reduction in plastic is really starting to impact the business. There is a lot more demand for this type of packaging, for example, a combined board with plastic.”
