Sorbet Innovation to Consume Straight From the Fruit
24 Oct 2016 | Divino
Divino Gelato Filled Fruit is an original frozen fruit to take out, spoon included and containing no GMOs. Each of the five fruits in the line is sourced from a particular province in Southern Italy. The fruits are picked when ripe and brought to the company’s factory in the Amalfi Coast. The available varieties are: Roman Kiwi, Amalfi Lemon, Apulian Peach, Ciaculli Tangerine and Diamond Plum. The product was launched in the US in January 2015 and is now being promoted to European markets. Reed Cataldo at Divino explains: “We take fruit, cut it in half, scoop out the fruit by hand and take that pulp, add water and 9g of natural sugar to make a gelato. Then we get the once empty fruit and put it back together and freeze it. What you have left then is a lemon with lemon sorbet inside.” The product is vegan, gluten free and non-GMO Project certified. Each whole fruit contains around 100 calories, so it meets the healthier dessert trend.
