Private Label Manufacturers Association: Tirlán's creams and alternative dairy

31 May 2023 | Tirlán

Stephen Browne, head of international sales, speaks about Tirlán’s recently released stabilized cream, as the company aims to target the tea and beverage sector. Browne also showcases Tirlán’s gluten-free oat milk and reveals how the company has recently released its pure oat milk outside of Ireland.

I'm Mark from Food Ingredients First talking with Stephen from Tirlan.

OK, Stephen, can you talk about the rebranding of the name?

Yeah, thanks, Mark.

So Terlon is the new name for Gambia, Ireland.

We have come together now as Ireland's largest co op.

Owned by almost 6000 farmers across dairy, plants, oats, and grains, supplying a full range of food products.

Tirlon means land of plenty, so Ireland is a country that produces enough food for 30 million people.

We are exporting 95% of what we produce across the world.

Can you talk about the new products your line is releasing and how you're tapping into the Asian market?

Terlon, with the strength of our grass-fed dairy, we produce excellent products right across the dairy spectrum.

However, it's our Avonmore professional creams that I think really stand out and capture the excellence of Irish dairy.

We've recently launched a new 35.5% stabilized cream.

This is targeting the tea and beverage sector, coffee chains, bubble tea, cream tops, which is a very exciting and fast growing sector in the Asian market in particular.

Dairy prices have obviously skyrocketed in the last years but have are stabilizing now maybe.

Yes, so dairy prices have come down to what we think are sustainable and long term prices now.

They did peak last year and early part of this year, but I think consumers will find that the prices are now stable.

Which is great for consumers, for retailers, our food service partners and of course our farmers who I think will be encouraged to continue producing great dairy for many years to come.

Steven, can you talk about oats in plant-based beverages?

I know that Terland is a big producer of oats.

Yes, so, oats, Ireland is an excellent country in which to grow oats, and we have many farmers within our co op producing this product.

We have our own oat milk.

We produce a range of gluten-free oats, oat flour that we're supplying to retail customers and ingredients producers around.

We also have our own oat drinks.

We produce a fresh oat protein milk in Ireland and we've recently launched a range of pure oat milks which we're currently selling both in Ireland and abroad under the Avonmore brand name.

Producing your own oats is obviously easier for supply chain challenges.

No?

Yes, absolutely.

So I think customers, they look.

They really value having all the products produced in the local country and then so we control the full supply chain.

Also everything is closer, so it's more sustainable, right?

Exactly, so we're very much focused within the plant-based revolution on a range of oat products.

OK, thank you, Steven.

Thank you very much, Mark.
