Paul Grave of GlobalDairyTrade, an auction platform for internationally-traded commodity dairy products, notes massive volatility in the market right now, with price swings both ways. “We have seen drops of 6-10% in recent times and it is likely that we will see similar increases in the other direction in the near future,” he explains, with a number of factors driving the current volatility. “The Russian situation obviously has a big influence, but it is also down to the extra stock in China and a slowdown in the purchasing, but also a change in policies, exchange and other macro-economic factors that have nothing to do with dairy, such as weather,” he adds.
