Martin Pardell, director, private label & B2B export at Fazer Sweden, presents the company’s latest innovation: oat rice. This product is now available as a private-label product for retailers who want to offer their customers a healthy and sustainable alternative to regular rice. Pardell explains how oat rice is made from oats grown in Sweden and processed with minimal environmental impact. He also highlights the nutritional benefits of oat rice, such as its high fiber and protein content.
I'm Mark Cervera for Food ingredients first, and I'm here with Martin Barel from Fazer.
So Martin, can you tell us what you're bringing to this show today?
Yeah, mainly we're, we're bringing product that is made in our mill in Sweden and in Latte.
First of all, I would like to introduce one of the products, my favorite product for myself is the oat rice, which also is now available.
As a private labor product and then we also have cereals like extruded cereals.
We also make mueslis and we of course have oat flakes in different shapes and sizes.
OK, so you're bringing a new.
And you try that type of oat, you're extracting more nutritious properties from it, right?
Yes, if you compare oat rice to like normal rice, first of all, the sustainability is almost 80% more sustainable when you look at the CO2 equivalence compared to rice from Thailand.
And then we have the nutrition value.
When you look at fiber, it's 7.5 times more fiber in oat rice compared to normal rice.
And then you have the protein level is 67% more protein, and you also have lower carbohydrates.
This means that you keep your full for a longer time.
And also oat rice does not contain arsenic, which actually rice does.
So how are you seeing the consumer demand for high in fiber and high in protein?
I think the demand is there, but you need to know more about the product because you can just replace rice.
It's perfect in risotto.
It's perfect as a part in a salad.
You can also make snacks of those rice when you roast it with some oil and some salt.
You can have it in between meals together with some.
Also make porridges if you want.
It's a very nice product that people need to get to know even more.
Is the flavor profile of this rice the same as traditional rice?
It doesn't taste as much as traditional rice, which means that you can add flavors.
You can add salt, of course, but you can.
Add other flavors, especially when you do a risotto.
It's perfect because the starch helps you to get a very creamy, creamy risotto.
So it's a neutral flavor what they say.
Yes, very neutral flavor.
So it helps also with like formulations and everything.
It's for producers to create their formulations, formulations like.
Because it's a neutral flavor, it's easy to incorporate into mixes and products.
Yeah, yeah, it works very.
You can actually use it instead of meat if you do like tacos.
You have already boiled old rice, you put it in a food machine, and then you like.
Make the food machine, add spices, and then you just fry it with some butter and oil.
Then you have it instead of minced meat, actually in tacos, for example, or you can make a vegetarian meat sauce, but it's not meat, of course.
OK, thanks so much.
Thank you very much.
