WILD Develops New Clear Color Blends for Europe

27 Sep 2013 --- WILD Flavors GmbH (WILD) has extended its Colors from Nature range to include clear orange color blends – a particularly popular color for food and beverages. The new development allows the company to satisfy the high demand for coloring foodstuffs. This demand was recently boosted due to an EU regulation valid as of June 1, 2013 that further restricts the use of azo dyes.

WILD now provides an even wider range of coloring foodstuffs for orange shades acceptable for use in the European market which do not require E numbers. The new blends allow manufacturers to create appealing clean label products.

Orange and other fruits that require the color “orange” are among the most popular flavors for foods and beverages – products flavored with orange, mango, a mix of tropical fruits and many other fruity varieties. For the consumer, it is the product’s appearance combined with the perfect flavor that counts. WILD meets this consumer requirement with its new color blends. Manufacturers can use them in such a way that the color precisely reflects the flavor of the product – in the respectively optimum orange shade. The result is a coherent concept and an appealing overall profile for the consumer.

WILD’s new coloring foodstuffs are based on raw materials containing anthocyanin, such as red radish and black carrot combined with safflower. The color blends can be used in a host of applications for food and beverages – in ice cream, fruit gums, hard candies and dragées as well as still drinks, soft drinks containing fruit juice and multivitamin and ACE drinks. Clean labeling is always possible with the color blends.

The orange color blends are characterized by high heat and light stability. They are easy to handle in terms of application development, just like other coloring foodstuffs. Manufacturers can individually select the dosage and composition of the blends so that they are tailored to their product concept. WILD produces the orange shades at its color competence centers in Valencia and Berlin.
