Univar Solutions and Kalsec expand natural taste & sensory, colors, and food protection partnership

16 Dec 2022 --- Univar B.V., a subsidiary of Univar Solutions Inc, has reached an exclusive agreement for Univar Solutions to distribute Kalsec’s natural taste & sensory, colors, and food protection ingredient solutions for savory applications in the UK and Ireland.

Univar Solutions continues to strengthen its ingredients portfolio, already working closely with Kalsec in other European countries, such as Poland and the Nordics, and Latin American countries, including Mexico.

Univar Solutions flags that this latest expansion demonstrates its commitment to working with premier suppliers like Kalsec, a certified B Corp that meets the highest verified standards of social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability.

Last month, Kalsec joined forces with biotech firm Willow Biosciences to develop and commercialize a precision fermentation production process for high-volume applications. This technique will be used to harness the metabolic properties of brewer’s yeast to produce new ingredients.

In the summer, Kalsec also linked up with Infinome Biosciences to develop and commercialize multiple ingredient-producing microbes to be used in precision fermentation processes.

Other moves for Univar Solutions this year have included its big launch of Foodology, an expert team focused on the distribution and technical innovation solutions of food and nutritional ingredients and the acceleration of food products to market.

And just last month, German chemicals distributor Brenntag has confirmed potential takeover talks with Univar Solutions and is understood to be debating the feasibility of a potential acquisition in the coming months.
