No supermarkets in the UK have strong enough policies to ensure that their suppliers fully mitigate irresponsible use of antibiotics on farms, flags an assessment made by the Alliance to Save Our Antibiotics (ATSOA). While some retailers welcome the findings, others say they might “challenge” the assessment for incorrect information.The campaigners say the report points to a lack of initiative among retailers to ensure suppliers’ compliance with national legislation, which prohibits antibiotic use to compensate for low animal welfare practices.
