Two New Breweries for Carlsberg Group in Asia
23 Oct 2013 --- Carlsberg Asia has celebrated two of its biggest expansion programmes ever, with ceremonies to mark the construction breweries in Dali, China and Boga in Myanmar.
Carlsberg China held a ceremony in Dali, where the strategic partnership between the brewer and the Provincial Government of Yunan, will see a ten million hectolitre (hl), greenfield brewery constructed, cementing Carlsberg China’s position as the market leader in Western China.
The new brewery will be built to high environmental specifications which will see a focus on minimising CO2 emissions to ensure a low carbon footprint. Tang Shuhao, VP of supply chain for Carlsberg China says: “We strive to offer our consumers top quality beer whilst preserving the environment and nature.”

Meanwhile, a similar ceremony was held in Myanmar to mark the construction of the first international brewery in the country. The brewery will be located on a 54 acre site in Bago, and is expected to employ over 500 people directly, plus providing employment to thousands of other indirectly, as well as greater economic stability in the region.
The brewery will be located near a major rice producing area in Myanmar which, according to Daniel Sjogren, MD of Myanmar Carlsberg, will mean access to the highest quality raw materials. He says: “We will have access to good quality water and the famous Bago rice. Other raw materials such as malted barley and hops will be imported according to Carlsberg Group’s high quality global specifications.”
Jørgen Buhl Rasmussen, CEO of Carlsberg Group, said: “Asia is an important growth region for the Group and these two new breweries will place Carlsberg Group in the best possible position to capture a significant share of the future growth. China and Myanmar’s breweries will both embrace modern brewing technology whilst placing significant focus on the environmental impact.”
