Tropicana to come out with a fruit snack bar
It is the first chewable snack for the juice company
01/12/05 PepsiCo Inc.'s Tropicana unit is juicing up its product line with the national rollout of a fruit snack bar, the company said Tuesday, according to The Dallas Morning News.
Called Tropicana Fruitwise, the fruit bars are fat free, cholesterol free and deliver two USDA servings of fruit, the company said.
PepsiCo, based in Purchase, N.Y., is trying to boost offerings that can be marketed to health-conscious consumers.
Jim McCarthy, president of the Snack Food Association, said some nutritionists have expressed concerns about the amount of sugar in fruit snacks. Still, many consumers consider fruit snacks a healthier alternative to fatty, salty treats.
