SIAL Symposium to Assess Flaws in How Calories are Measured
The informal symposium will examine whether there is a flaw in how calories are measured which will be presented by guest speakers, Dr Geoffrey Livesey, well known for his expertise on calculating calories, Lu Ann Williams, Head of Research at Innova Market Insights and Prof Wickham.
8 Oct 2012 --- During SIAL this year, Lu Ann Williams, Head of Research at Innova Market will be speaking at an event discussing calories and whether all calories are created equal.
The informal symposium will examine whether there is a flaw in how calories are measured which will be presented by guest speakers, Dr Geoffrey Livesey, well known for his expertise on calculating calories, Lu Ann Williams, Head of Research at Innova Market Insights and Prof Wickham, who will present the results of a study that was recently published in the prestigious American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (AJCN).
In this study, which was conducted by a group from the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA), researchers used a rigorous method for determining the energy value of almonds and found that almonds may have about 20% fewer calories than originally thought.
