Plantextrakt Expands in UK With Claremont Agreement
From October 1, Plantextrakt will work together with Claremont, a supplier of flavourings and colourings to UK and Irish manufacturers of drinks, dairy products, bakery products and animal food.
Plantextrakt GmbH & Co. KG has announced its move into a stronger position in the UK and Irish tea and herbal extract markets, by signing an agreement with UK food and drink industry supplier Claremont Ingredients Limited for the sale of its products in these markets.
From October 1, Plantextrakt will work together with Claremont, a supplier of flavourings and colourings to UK and Irish manufacturers of drinks, dairy products, bakery products and animal food. Claremont will take over the sale of Plantextrakt’s natural and functional tea and plant extracts as well as tea flavourings.
Thus far Plantextrakt had a very limited presence on the UK market, but Oliver Hehn, Product Manager at the company expected sales in the country to at least double as a result of the move in the coming years. “Claremont is a well-known UK company and we have substantial room for growth there”, he told FoodIngredientsFirst.
Plantextrakt has similar distribution agreements in place around the world. For example C.N. Schmidt works as its distributor in The Netherlands and Selectchemie performs a similar role in Switzerland.
According to Hehn, the traditional iced tea market in the UK is not very developed. Therefore he predicts much greater potential for tea extracts in other ready to drink segments such as near waters as well as herbal extracts for the beverage and a number of other segments.
Hehn noted that blossom derived beverages were a real emerging trend in the UK, while the trend towards more natural tasting products was on the rise. “There are many more product introductions with ‘the taste of the good old times’. People don’t want flavours that no-one can distinguish. They should taste authentic and we see a lot of potential there,” he added.
The main markets for herbal extracts are beverages and dairy, while infant nutrition is also a significant segment. Ingredients in infant nutrition are camomile, fennel and others .
Plantextrakt GmbH & Co. KG, a subsidiary of Martin Bauer is one of the world's leading suppliers of tea and herbal extracts. Using approximately 100 different types of plants, the company has developed over 2,000 recipes as well as tailor-made and innovative product concepts. At the Health ingredients Europe (HiE) show in Paris next month, the company will again demonstrate a number of new and innovative concepts, with radiant beauty thanks to functional ingredients in beverages, a hint of the Far East in drinking yoghurt with exotic extracts. A strong focus will be on authentic taste experiences with tea extracts. The extract manufacturer will be presenting its product ideas according to the motto "Extracts for Success".
Plantextrakt has developed a new, particularly gentle production method, which results in an intensive taste experience, so that many product variants based on Green Tea, Rooibos, Lemon Balm and other herbs retain their original character. The 'Extracts for Success' range is claimed to offer customers innovative, authentic products with great success potential.
