Patent-pending design, branded SuSTANDable by J&J Packaging, Sunman, IN, ensures product security, offers large package that stands up on shelf, reduces waste, meets packaging reduction initiatives from retailers like Wal-Mart, Bentonville, AR. “The trick is in the design,” explains Bill Morgan, vp of marketing at J&J, who says each customer selects its own materials.
Although no commercial applications exist yet, sample design shows batteries secured in trapped blister on solid bleached sulfate (SBS) card. “What we’ve done,” Morgan explains, “is design a big package that can be made out of paper that can stand up and that ship flat.” Flat shipping requires less space than standing clamshell or tri-fold package, results in smallest possible cube. Flat piece fits in bulk club packs or on hanger strips.
For stand-up display, fold-out bottom converts blister card to “easel” with one bending motion. SuSTANDable packs run on existing equipment with change of sealing tools.
