Nordenia Develops New Features for Big Bags

Thanks to a filter that has been laminated into the inliners of flexible intermediate bulk containers (FIBC), the oxygen can be extracted and replaced by an inert gas.

Oct 18 2011 --- For FIBC (Flexible Intermediale Bulk Container) inliners, NORDENIA has developed two innovative technologies that clearly increase the efficiency and possible uses of Big Bags with volumes from 0.5 to 2 cubic meters. Due to a multilayer film with a filter that has been laminated into it, oxygen can be extracted from the FIBC and replaced by a gas. An innovative grid provides greater stability and more efficient filling.

The oxygen is suctioned through the multilayer film with a filter and replaced by an inert gas. This method considerably extends the shelf life of sensitive food in particular and thus enables longer transport distances and the development of new markets. Existing filling stations can continue to be used for this technology.

The grid stabilizes the inliner and the commodity can flow into the corners unhindered. An FIBC can thus accommodate up to 15 percent more. At the same time, the abrasion-resistant material of the grid is clearly cleaner than conventional PP grids and thus more food-safe.

The new technologies are especially suited for high-quality, particularly sensitive commodities like baby food and powdered milk. Filters or grids can also be used for pet food, soil and fertilizer, chemicals, plastics, or cleansing agents.
