New Database Tracks GMO Risk Ingredients
03 Nov 2016 --- A food chain transparency database that tracks genetically modified risk ingredients through the supply chain can help retailers with a strong non GMO policy to have complete traceability.
Food industry consultants, Foodchain ID Europe, has developed a new software platform that facilitates a transparent, traceable global supply network. Its called inSYTE and it’s a unique food ingredients online database which requires suppliers to food manufacturers supplying retailers - currently Waitrose and Marks & Spencer - to register their GM risk ingredients.
A team of technical experts can then evaluate the non-GMO status of that particular ingredient by looking into the certification or testing which has been undertaken in order to asses the risk in the supply chain.
It’s available to retailers, suppliers, growers, importers, exporters, finished food manufacturers, traders, agents and brokers.
Foodchain ID Europe says that inSYTE ingredients evaluations are assessed against an internal database of 43,000 unique ingredients and around 500 identified GMO risks.
“Manage your non-GMO IP claims and register non-GMO ingredients for approval. inSYTE is powered by a database containing over 40,000 ingredients and their GMO risk status. Reviewed non-GMO ingredients are searchable by users looking for approved non-GMO Ingredients,” says the company’s website.
FoodChain ID Europe is also expanding the site to include agents, brokers and manufacturers who ‘sponsor’ a supplier so that all roles within the food supply chain are accommodated.
