Meijer was founded in 1934, as a small grocery store in Greenville, Michigan. Meijer's philosophy was, "Just give customers the kind of merchandise, service, and prices you would like to see if you were a customer." This has been the basis of Meijer's success which continues today. In addition to the traditional family atmosphere found in all of its stores, Meijer has taken strong stands on contemporary issues including the importance of the environment, community support, and staff diversity.
Newman's Own Organic Fair Trade Certified coffees are a natural addition to Meijer supercenters. Organic certification ensures that the high quality coffees were grown in an environmentally friendly manner without exposure to synthetic agrochemicals. Fair Trade certification guarantees that the small-scale family farmers who grew these coffees received a fair price for their crop. All Newman's Own Organic coffees located in the grocery isle in 55 Meijer locations are both organic and Fair Trade certified.
