Medipharm Acquisition Strengthens Chr. Hansen Animal Health & Nutrition Business
The members of the Swedish sales force will be offered positions at the Chr. Hansen headquarter in Hørsholm and the remaining 25 employees will be offered vacant and relevant positions in Denmark.
19/02/08 The acquisition of Swedish Medipharm in January provides a strong platform for growth as the first synergies begin to materialize. The integration into Chr. Hansen leads to restructuring of the current Medipharm set-up.
"The integration between Medipharm and Chr. Hansen provides a strong basis for meeting two dominant market trends within the agricultural industry. Firstly, we meet a growing interest from global consumers in food produced without the use of antibiotic growth promoters. Secondly, Chr. Hansen now holds a stronger platform in East and Central Europe, where both the number and size of farms are developing rapidly,“ explains Jan Kuhlmann, Vice President, Animal Health & Nutrition Division, Chr. Hansen.
“We have identified clear synergies and together Chr. Hansen and Medipharm will provide the market with the world’s best natural silage additives and further develop and grow the already unique combination of expertise within feed probiotics”, says Jan Kuhlmann,
The integration entails changes in the present set-up. The Medipharm site in Sweden is anticipated to close down production by the end of this year. The members of the Swedish sales force will be offered positions at the Chr. Hansen headquarter in Hørsholm and the remaining 25 employees will be offered vacant and relevant positions in Denmark.
The Medipharm site in Des Moines, US will be closed down by the end of this year and the business integrated in the existing Chr. Hansen Animal Health and Nutrition Unit based in Milwaukee. The site in the Czech Republic will continue its operations for sales and will be part of an important set-up for well-known animal health products like BioPlus2B, Gallipro and others.
“The Czech site will become a bridgehead for important growing markets like Slovakia, Poland, Belarus, Ukraine and Russia. We work on expanding our geographical coverage and developing a unique product portfolio for our animal health and nutrition business, “says Jan Kuhlmann.
