In fact, in a triumphant end to an outstanding year, McWilliam’s Wines was awarded 45 trophies and 789 medals on the 2007 Australian wine show circuit alone. This comes as no surprise as McWilliam’s has been making quality wine in Australia for six generations, while consistently receiving awards and accolades at wine competitions both domestically and internationally.
“We are so proud to finally be able to make this exciting declaration that has been over 130 years in the making,“ said sixth-generation winemaker and family spokesperson, Scott McWilliam. “Consumers everywhere can purchase McWilliam’s and discover that our hand-crafted premium wines not only reflect an amazing value for the money, but offer a true Australian experience in each and every bottle.”
The winery has been recognized in Australia as “Most Successful Exhibitor” – a trophy awarded to the winery that scores the most points at a wine show – a whopping 27 times in the last decade. And being named “Most Successful Exhibitor” at the 2007 Sydney Royal Wine Show for an unprecedented 13th consecutive year was surely a significant distinction, as awards and wine competitions play a key role in the Australian wine scene. In addition, in 2006 leading wine writer and critic Stuart Gregor named McWilliam’s “Winery of the Year.”
McWilliam’s is also regularly recognized in the U.S. at wine shows such as the West Coast Wine Competition, the Hilton Head Wine Festival and the Los Angeles International Wine & Spirits Competition, to name a few. Additionally, the winery has received multiple awards at the Taster’s Guild International Wine Competition, the International Eastern Wine Competition and the Pacific Rim International Wine Competition.
