LycoRed to Highlight Natural Colorants
Stability in the presence of vitamin C makes these carotenoid colorants good candidates for beverages – especially juices, smoothies and sport drinks.
09/11/06 LycoRed will highlight a line of ready-to-use food and beverage colorants at HIE in Frankfurt (14-16 November). These new natural carotenoid colorants follow on the heels of LycoRed’s success with Tomat-O-Red tomato lycopene color. The color formulations in the new line are derived from tomato lycopene, beta-carotene and lutein – carotenoids which deliver antioxidant health benefits along with vibrant color.
The vegetarian colorant formulations are highly stable throughout a wide range of temperatures, pH and processing conditions. Additionally, stability in the presence of vitamin C makes these carotenoid colorants good candidates for beverages – especially juices, smoothies and sport drinks. Unlike other natural food colorants, LycoRed colorants show no signs of color shift during processing or pasteurization – an important advantage.
LycoRed creates innovative nutrition through a combination of new and innovative products and close-relationship with their customers. LycoRed’s nutrition solutions simplify the development and production process of cutting-edge food, beverage and nutritional supplement products. Partnership and support through all the stages of product development allows the customer to benefit from LycoRed's expertise and creativity.
It recently emerged that LycoRed is introducing an all-natural lutein product line that is patent protected. Lyc-O-Lutein will be an integral part of LycoRed’s natural carotenoid portfolio that also includes its flagship brand – Lyc-O-Mato. LycoRed has successfully developed a high-quality line with the antioxidant health benefits of lutein, specifically designed for the dietary supplement industry.
Lutein is well known for its antioxidant health benefits, being most often touted for its role in supporting eye-health. LycoRed will continue to support scientific research into the health benefits of lutein, and a clinical trial is already planned.
The Lyc-O-Lutein line includes oil suspensions for soft-gel formulations and numerous beadlet formulations for tablets and hard-shell capsules. The centre-piece of the new product line is a highly stable gelatin-free and allergen-free beadlet, containing 20% lutein. Pharmachem Laboratories will market the lutein beadlets and oil suspensions in the US, continuing their long-standing relationship with LycoRed.
LycoRed’s unique vegetarian beadlet matrix ensures excellent stability and thus drastically reduces the overage necessary. According to the company, the 20% lutein beadlets contain 200-400% more active ingredient in comparison to 5% lutein products currently available on the market.
